How Self-Sabotage Saps your Energy

Yesterday I was presenting to the Business Development Forum at the Hunter Business Chamber about "Keeping the Energy High in your Business". Brilliant topic - thank you HBC - lots of fun!

Something I touched on briefly was one critical reason for low energy - the pattern of "self-sabotage"!

Strangely enough, we run two "selves". First, there is the conscious "logical" self (which we often think of as our only or "true" self), which might be setting goals and taking on tasks like there's no tomorrow. Next there is the unconscious mind underneath, which is looking on and running its own priorities. One of its prime "drivers" is protection, so if we have a plan to flog ourselves to death, it's the bit that comes in and pulls the plug on the plan!

It does this by sapping out our energy, redirecting us to avoidance activities, making us distractible, getting us eating sugar and watching junk TV or surfing the net - or whatever it is for you! So much easier if it was just able to say "I think that plan is unreasonable. Give us a break!" Maybe, in it's own way, it is! Learning to listen to that voice is a crucial part of getting in "the flow", where energy comes easily to help us reach our goals and priorities.

The most energising level of challenge is just beyond our current reach.

If you think you've been running self-sabotage, try this. Pick a very realistic set of goals for your day, based on past experience, then "up" it one notch to something you'd love to get done as well, but you know it's a stretch! (Don't focus on everything that "should" be on your list but isn't! If you're self-sabotaging, it wouldn't have happened anyway!)

Pick a definite point at which you will stop - including taking breaks! (This can be tough but it's a crucial part of regaining the trust of your poor old undervalued unconscious mind.)

Then, imagine yourself hitting the button that says "GO". Feel the energy start to flow. Be determined to feel great about what you DO achieve - in this time slot and in this day. Notice how different it feels when you are taking account of both parts of your self in setting your goals!
At the end of the day, check your productivity against days when you didn't do it this way. Adjust as necessary, if you still over-stretched, or worked less efficiently than you might have. Make a choice for the future.

Neither of our "selves" could function without the other. Help them get along, and life can be happy AND productive.

Business Coaching To Improve Interviewing Skills

Coaching can help with all kinds of issues in business as this recent article below shows. Even recruiting and
interviewing can be improved when you work on it with your business coach.

Many times I see businesses hiring people when they hit crisis point and need someone 'right now', so end up hiring people who are available, not hiring people who meet the best criterion for that role. Again, there is often no well structured position description and no training set up for new hires to bring them into the business with an understanding of the culture, or the exact duties of their role and the standard that is expected or how to achieve that.

Coaching can assist with all these areas.

Improve interviewing skills with business coaching

Coaching Interviewers can utilise coaching skills in order to "form a better picture" of job candidates, it has been claimed.

According to Steve Marsh, partner at marketing consultancy Innovative Edge, business coaching can have tangible benefits when it comes to recruiting the right staff.

"What's key is first of all for the executives, or whoever is being coached, to get a better understanding of who they are," Mr Marsh said.

Attaining greater self-awareness will then allow individuals to identify which areas they want to improve on and help them to unlock their potential, he added.

Mr March claimed there are "some very underused coaching skills" which interviewers can [use] to uncover greater depth from individuals.

When considering interviewees, Mr Marsh explained that such techniques could help employers "understand more about what a person is saying.

Equally, they may be able to read into what a candidate is not saying, which can sometimes be more important.

Earlier this week, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills announced the launch of the Growth and Innovation Fund, which will deliver £50 million a year to help businesses develop the skills they need to drive growth.

The fund could be used by businesses to deliver new training to employees.

The Secrets of Sustainable Long Term, Free & Ready to Buy

In this video you'll learn how to effectively use information marketing tools such as video, audio and article marketing to create a massive influx of targeted, ready to buy visitors to your website.

This type of strategy is also a "long term" strategy due to the multiple placements that information marketing reaches both online and offline.

When you mix this strategy with viral marketing you'll have a massively powerful and "unstoppable" source of targeted traffic, ready to buy what you have when you need them.

The beauty of this is, you can just keep doing more and more of it to get all the traffic you need & then outsource it to amazing outsourcers once you're achieving the sales targets you set yourself for a truly automated process.
